Well, the truth is, the Dairyland dogs will all get placed by February 5th, but Danette is right, we won't run out of dogs -- we'll just get them from another track. The details of that are not all sorted out yet, but please keep in mind, we currently have more than 50+ applications, so its going to take us a little while to get through all of them.
When the Dairyland dogs are all placed, there are thousands of other greyhounds across the country that will still need help, and we'll bring those dogs back to the Midwest to find homes. I imagine the regional groups will have some kind of pow-wow after the 1st of the year to brainstorm about how that will happen. I'm sure there will be plenty of people wanting to give us Florida or Alabama dogs.... not to worry.
Also should add that even though some applicants may not get a dog from Dairyland, whatever dog you do adopt will be one that is displaced because a Dairyland racer likely landed at their track to continue racing. For instance, I was told that 80 racers from Dairyland went to a track in Florida - meaning that 80 dogs that had been at that track now needed to find another place to go. So the overall pool of dogs will just be shifting around.
All the dogs will need homes, and no matter where your greyhound comes from, we're sure the love and companionship you receive from having a hound in your home will be well worth the wait!
