Thanks for posting, Karen. I figured someone would see that this morning. Smile

^ Before anyone panics about the article posted above, please realize that there is a lot of negotiating going on right now, a lot of entities trying to point out who's duty it is to care for the dogs after the close. Nothing is set in stone yet, and I was on the phone with Bob Sloey, Director of the Division of Gaming this morning. We had a nice long discussion about all of the objectives and caveats to this closing. The most important aspect of our conversation was this:

He has assured me that the kennels will stay open until the last dogs move out.
He has assured me the dogs will be cared for and tracked as to their whereabouts by the State of Wisconsin.

How is all this going to work? Uncertain. I honestly don't know yet. We have to be diligent and continue working as we are. We of course cannot let our guard down, but I also don't want people to panic, either. I think much of this latest crisis is a lot of posturing and power struggle between the main players. I'll be making more calls on this and keeping close tabs on how this develops. Stay tuned.

I wonder if a donation fund could be set up for this?

On the morning news:

http://www.waow.com/Global/story.asp?S=11765865

They included a link to Greyhound Central

http://greyhoundcentral.org/

Does anyone know if this is a legit group?

The webpage doesn't have much on it.

My DH works at a sister station to that one here in La Crosse. That story came off the AP newswire, someone at his station pointed it out to him, and he explained the situation to them. Unfortunately, this stuff happens when facts aren't checked before running a story, the presumption is that if it comes from the national wire service, it must be accurate.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say that this recent Associated Press story is the biggest farce I've seen in quite a while. I worked on this article with both reporters from Milwaukee and Massachusetts over several interviews, phone calls, emails and even a video taping. Their grandiose ideas about what the article would be certainly did not materialize in this piece if you ask me. I wasted hours with these two writers, only for them to tell me that the information I gave was "edited out". Not only that, but the video they showed about the very nice lady who was adopting a dog from Dairyland in my opinion is a terrible representation of greyhound behavior (if you saw that). The dog was jumping all over her and did not make a good impression on the breed at all. Very disappointing to say the least.

I suppose its hard to tell how upset I am about this, hey? Rolling Eyes What a waste of time.

And Annette, I don't know if that group is legit or not. I've never heard of them. How nice that the reporters didn't even put a link or information to Dairyland's website, or any other legitimate contact information to anyone about greyhound adoption. Nice. Mad

That website that is linked is a mess. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. How stupid of these writers. Just plain stupid. Thanks for the 'help', jerks.
