Okay, here is your end of the week update on the situation at Dairyland....

Right now, we have moved all the dogs out of Dairyland that we can. That's right folks - there are no dogs at DGP that need to go somewhere at this moment. I can't even get any more dogs right now if I wanted to - and I did, since we have a few spots open and a boat load of applications. We just received 6 new dogs, but that's going to be all we can get until after the holidays, I believe.

Not to worry, as the closing nears, we'll be able to get more dogs, so I take this to be Fate's way of saying we are all going to get a few days of respite (well, not really) over the holidays.

I tell you all this because so many people have still said "I want to foster" or "I want to adopt" so that I can save one of the dogs. Well, that's great folks - stay tuned, we'll have more dogs, but we are not going to have the huge surplus of dogs we anticipated and no dogs that are left at the track are going to be in jeopardy once the closing arrives. Actually, Kari from Midwest and I have all ready been kidding that we are going to have to arm wrestle each other for the last of the dogs! Maybe we can sell tickets to that for a fundraiser - what do you guys think? Ha, ha! Smile

With GPA having about 30 applications in the works, and having just received another 40 from Dairyland's adoption Center, that gives us about 70 total to plow through - yes, I said 70! We will likely need to get going on ideas of how to get hounds moved up here not long after the closing. Its a good problem to have, people!

So, that is the state of the situation right now as we know it. A few more hauls are scheduled to go out - some dogs moving to Ohio on the 27th of December, I'm told, and a few went to Minnesota this week. I think Linda from Greyhound Alliance has a haul going out to Michigan this Sunday, too, so we are really in pretty darn good shape!

Happy Holidays to everyone! I probably won't have much info to report next week, but if I do, I will post it here!
Otherwise, more to come sometime after Christmas!

Ellen

Dizzang!!!! Ka-chow!!!
What awesome news. I'm thrilled. My mini-van is already to go. Smile
There does seem to be a buzz in the air about the dogs.
When I walk Simon and Nell, I literally get a little too much attention. Smile People seem to be very aware of what's going on... I am grateful for all the attention the media has been giving it.
Thanks for the updates!

That's amazing! I am so glad to see so many people/adoption groups have stepped up to take dogs! GREAT!

And the fact that we have so many applicants, even better. Yes, it means more work, but that is a good thing!

Please let us know if we can help. We are pretty full here, so I don't know about fostering, but we can help with transport, home visits, etc.

It was so nice to be able to tell people at the outlet mall last weekend that we have all of the available hounds out and won't have any more until after Christmas. Everyone was happy to hear it and genuinely seemed to be concerned about the hounds' welfare.
