Today is Dairyland's last day. That seemed to have come up fast.
It will be strange driving by Kenosha and knowing all those kennels will be empty soon...
I wonder what will become of that entire complex?

I really, really wanted to get back this week. I think it would have been fun to spend New Year's there tonight, but it didn't work out that way.

I actually did drive past last Saturday and it already looked sparce.

I hope the employees are able to find something after all of this.

Kenosha passed an extension to allow a casino in that location if the tribe wins their appeal with the state. I don't remember how long of and extension it was though. Kenosha really needs the jobs.

We will be going tonight just to look around watch some of the athletes prepare for their last race at the park.

One memory we do have, of Dairyland, is taking our son Frankie to see greyhounds since we were in the process of adopting our first greyhound. On that day a greyhound named Bravo Mr Magoo raced. We had no idea then but we ended up adopting Magoo.

We are going out to eat first then do the general admission.

Have fun tonight.

I think all of us who have dogs from Dairyland feel a little something will be missing after tonight. We all have memories...

Yeah... I am toying with going tonight... I have never gone.
I really do wish they would build a casino there. Yes, jobs! Yes, revenue for the state. Maybe when there is a new govenor next year?

Bob and I will be going down there for a little while tonight. It was requested we make an appearance, so we will.
Eloy, Cindy - hope to see you there.
Susan - you and Andre really should come down.
Scott and Kay will be there also, I think.

I spoke to Huns last night. He was there yesterday watching the last of his Emerald dogs race.... He said it was packed and he had to wait for them to print more programs to get one. I'm guessing it will be the same tonight.

Its a weird day. A lot of mixed emotions for sure. Part of me is happy and looking to the future in anticipation. Part of me is apprehensive and anxious about the big changes we'll face as an organization. I'm sure its all going to be okay, and those Florida dogs that need homes are calling us to help them. As well as the dogs in Alabama, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma.... We will still have our work cut out for us, that's for sure.

Sounds like Dairyland is going to go out with a Bang tonight. Smile

So what is Huns going to do with his dogs now?

I've heard HoChunk does not want a casino there. That it would take business away from the other casino's in WI.

Since Dairyland said they could not be profitable without a casino, if the tribe wins their appeal do you think the dog track would re-open? I never thought to go watch a race before it closed. The only greyhound race I've seen was way back when the one in the Dells first opened. That was probably 20+ years ago? Of course if I'd go watch then I'd see a greyhound I'd want. I don't need another greyhound but I'm a terrible impulse shopper! Very Happy

I've been wondering that same exact thing. Would a new casino bring back dog racing?

The three remaining Emerald racers at Dairyland will be making their way into the GPA program. Those dogs are: Emerald Bristol, Emerald Rusty, and Emerald Shelly. They should be at the kennel by Saturday.

Huns told me he will only have one racing dog left after Dairyland and Raynham close. I don't know where his remaining dog is racing. Will have to ask him.

You are the second person to mention this in the last 24 hours. I don't know the answer. I am a little freaked out at the prospect, I can't lie. I'm told that the application to open a casino currently includes dog racing (since it was submitted so long ago when the track was open) and that if the application is approved as it stands, there is a possibility. Otherwise, they'd have to start over with a new application that did not include a venue for dog racing and that is probably not a viable option.

I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I am going to night as well. I feel that I have to be there the last day of the track seeing as I have two racers from there. My feelings are so mixed and feel like are all losing a little piece of ourselves ( well the hounds) . I wish that the outcome would have been different for Dairyland. One good thing is we can help the hounds in Florida and other states find their way to a BIG COMFY COUCH which they so deserve Very Happy
